Chatham Town made it nine unbeaten in the league with an emphatic victory against bottom of the table Whitehawk and puts them just four points away from the play-off places.
The game was just twenty seconds old when for Chatham scored, when Jordy Mongoy running forward to the edge of the area slipped the ball into the path of Freddie Sears who from 15 yards shot past Will Huffer.
In the 11th minute it could have been two when a Jack Evans free kick to the back post was headed back into the six-yard box where Simon Cooper stabbed the ball forward only for it to be cleared of the line.
After this bright start Chatham took their foot of the gas and allowed Whitehawk back into the game. In the 17th minute Emmanuel Mensah had their first shot on target when from 25 yards his shot was saved by Joe Wright.
The game saw Whitehawk with a lot of possession without really causing problems and Chatham at the time relied on breakaways as in the 28th minute Sears saw his 25-yard shot saved.
Then six minutes later Mongoy saw his 20-yard shot saved. In the 37th minute Chatham doubled their lead when John Ufuah on the left wing cut into the area but was fouled and a penalty was given, up stepped Captain Jack Evans who shot into the top left-hand corner.
Chatham could and maybe should have had a third when Ufuah on the left broke away, then passed inside to Rowan Libard whose shot went to Mongoy who hesitated a second before shooting but it went over the bar.
The second half started slowly and then in the 56th minute Chatham got their third when Libard challenging for the ball saw it go forward to Sears on his own and once in the area shot past Huffer. Whitehawk in a rare chance saw Charlie Walker on the edge of the area see his shot come back of the crossbar and cleared.
Chatham were now in total control and in the 69th minute should have been four when Mongoy raced clear and once in the area from an angle his shot went across the area for a goal kick.
Three minutes later and another glorious chance came when Stuart O’Keefe flicked it forward for Sears who then flicked over the advancing Huffer only to see it land on the top of the net.
A few seconds later and it was four when Libard put Ufuah through on goal and once in the area slid the ball past Huffer. In the 82nd minute Mongoy on the left went into the area but shot wide.
The icing on the cake came in the 87th minute when a ball forward found Ufuah who raced on to it and once in the area chipped the unfortunate Huffer into the net.
The final whistle went and Chatham were jubilant with this performance and now with confidence high they can carry on their fine form.
