Chatham Town 4-1 Cheshunt
Chatham Town 4-1 Cheshunt

Chatham finally got back to winning ways and moved up to 14th in the table with an emphatic victory over Cheshunt. They dominated the first half and most of the second half with football their supporters hadn’t seen for a while and now they have maybe turned a corner.

Their game in hand is on Tuesday against Hastings which is going to raise money for the Air Ambulance after the unfortunate tragedy in last month’s game between the two clubs.

The Chats started on the front foot and in the third minute Jordy Robins saw his 20-yard shot go just past the post and three minutes later Sam Sene Richardson saw his 20-yard effort saved by R’avan Constable.

A minute later John Ufuah on the left wing saw his low cross flicked goal wards by Karim Isiaka but Constable pushed it around the post. Chatham took the lead in the 18th minute when a drop ball in Chatham’s favour came to Kasim Aidoo and he drove into the area and from 16 yards shot past Constable.

The game went a little quiet for eleven minutes then in the 29th minute Raul Da Silva’s poor pass was latched onto by Ufuah and he ran into the area but from 15 yards his shot was saved by Constable.

Cheshunt finally had their first shot in anger in the 34th minute when Vas Vasillou saw his 20-yard effort easily saved by Henry Molyneux. In the 44th minute a ball into the edge of the area was chested down by Isiaka for Jamie Yila and his shot from 20 yards was saved by Constable.

Then in the fifth minute of added on time Cheshunt against the run of play nearly equalised when Vasillou shot from 12 yards was deflected goal wards by the chest of Kenny Coker forcing Molyneux to get down and push it around the post.

The second half saw Cheshunt come out a different side as they pushed forward for an equaliser which did not look likely in the first 45 minutes. In the 51st minute they got their equaliser when a free kick into the area was dropped by Molyneux and the shot was then cleared off the line by Reece Butler but unfortunately came out to Raul Da Silva who shot home from 10 yards.

This shook the players and supporters of Chatham but this time they composed themselves and took control of the game.  In the 55th minute Yila fed the ball to Ufuah in the area and he cut back inside but his shot went over the bar.

Chatham regained the lead in the 68th minute when Yila put Substitute Freddie Sears through and calm as anything he slotted the ball past Constable.

In the 86th minute it could and maybe should have been three when Da Silva’s header back left Jordy Mongoy seven yards out on his own but he did not make any contact and Constable picked up.

Chatham did get their third in the first minute of added on time when Mongoy put Yila through and he went into the area and went round Constable who got a hand to it but not enough for Yila who stayed on his feet and slid the ball in from three yards.

The icing on the cake came in the sixth minute of added on time when Mongoy on the left wing beat the defender got to the by-line and his low cross to the near post found Sears who flicked it in. The final whistle went and Chatham and their supporters were in heaven after a great performance and now let’s hope they can repeat the performance on Tuesday evening.
