Chatham got back to winning ways but they were made to work for it against a team near the bottom of the table in Cheshunt.
Once again it shows that they are a good team as performances may be average but they are still picking up the points which keeps their promotion bid on course.
The first half was a bit of an anti climax for Chatham as they probably put in their worst 45 minutes of the season but were helped by Cheshunt’s failure to score. Cheshunt had more of the possession but their final ball and finishing was poor while Chatham failed to really cause any problems for the Cheshunt defence.
The second half was the complete opposite of the first and the Chatham players came out probably with harsh words by Kevin Hake still ringing in their ears.
It worked when in the 49th minute they took the lead when a Jack Evans corner right under the crossbar bounced around before Kareem Isiaka poked home from two feet.
Five minutes later it nearly became two when a quick throw in to Evans 25 yards out, his volley went whistling past the post.
In the 62nd minute it was two when a long ball forward found Chris Dickson who controlled it and then put Isiaka in, from 15 yards he shot home.
Chatham were now bossing the game and in the 66th minute it nearly became three when a free kick on the right side of the 18 yard area was hit low to Dickson who from 10 yards saw his low effort go just past the post.
Cheshunt were hanging on, then in the 69th minute Sam Granville ran across the area from the right and his 20 yard shot was pushed around the post by debutant Slav Huk (on loan from Dorking Wanderers).
Then six minutes later they got a life line when Granville was fouled in the area and a penalty was given up stepped Nnamdi Nwachuku who slotted it into the bottom right hand corner.
Three minutes later they could have equalised when a corner to the back post found Granville but his header from five yards went wide of the post.
In the 80th minute Chatham nearly scored their third when Dickson on the left collected the ball ran forward beat the defender, from the by-line his shot came out to Isiaka but his shot was blocked and came out Dickson who back heeled it goal wards but was cleared of the line.
Two minutes later Chatham got their third and what a goal when an Evans corner to the near post was met by Reece Butler, his side foot volley flew into the net.
Ten minutes were added on and in the 94th minute Cheshunt got their second when Antonis Vasilou received the ball on the right, twisted and turned before shooting into the net via the post.
The last seven minutes of the game were a bit frantic with Cheshunt looking for the equalise while Chatham were looking to hold on.
