It was yet another win for The Chats today as they take their winning streak to three games as they beat a lacklustre Corinthian 3-1 today at The Bauville Stadium.
Chatham got us underway for the first half and came out with a winning mindset as they had constant chances.
The first big chance coming from Michael Hagan who went on a great run but couldn’t get a good cross into the box as his cross was intercepted. Straight after this, a Chatham free-kick lead to a very debatable situation as a red shirt was brought down in the box but the referee waved it off and said no penalty.
This failed penalty shout didn’t dishearten The Chats as a great goal kick from Dan Ellis bounced over the defensive wall which led Hagan into a race to the ball with the Corinthian goal keeper Aiden Prall. Hagan managed to get to the ball first and lobbed the keeper in mid air which found the bottom right corner of the net.
This 1-0 lead didn’t stop Chatham as they continued to dominate a weak looking Corinthian as James Fray went on a great run on the right wing which led to him going for goal with a decent shot, but it just couldn’t beat Prall in goal. Then after this chance, Fray got the ball again and this time playing it to Jack Evans who struck the ball right on the sweet spot, but it was saved yet again.
Corinthian just couldn’t seem to get the ball out of the box as a great cross from Jon Pilbeam led to an equally good block and then Hagan supplied Paul Vines with a great chance which Vines just couldn’t finish in the end.
But on the brink of half time when Chatham thought they’d go into the second half with the lead, Corinthian stole a goal back with their first shot on target. The ball fell to Bassey-Steven Ita who hit a dead ball from the edge of the box which beat Dan Ellis and somehow found the bottom right corner.
The second half kicked off with a bang as Chatham come out exactly how they did for the first half with some very early chances.
A searching ball in from Jack Mahoney couldn’t find anyone and then another ball in from Pilbeam just missed the outstretched leg of Hagan. A great shot was then produced by Bodkin which only just whistled past the bar. Chatham had to be rewarded for their constant attacks and they finally were when a short corner found Bodkin who cut inside, skipped past the defender and then slotted it past Prall into the bottom left.
Yet again, a one goal cushion didn’t stop The Chats as they constantly piled on the pressure. Some fantastic passing play caused some holes in the Corinthian defense which led to a great cross for Vines who just couldn’t capitalize on this. But Vines mistake wasn’t a set-back for Chatham as a great ball in from the right wing found Richard Avery who stretched to the ball to poke it into the back of the net to make it 3-1.
The referee then blew his whistle to bring a well-deserved win for The Chats to a close. Hopefully this winning streak will continue as The Chats will be looking to upset the league leaders Fisher in their next fixture.
