Chatham Town 3-0 Carshalton Athletic

Chatham Town are now ten games without defeat, picking up an eighth win against Carshalton Athletic this afternoon. It keeps alive their outside chance of a play-off spot.

The game started off very cagey and it took ten minutes before the first chance of the game came when Reece Butler sent a long ball into the area for Harry Webster who saw his one-yard shot blocked by Aaron Watkins, then the game went quiet as both teams gave the ball away.

Carshalton seemed to be the better, but nothing was happening then in the 30th minute the Referee Kane Dempster took centre stage when he booked Michael Dada for the second time which to the neutral seemed harsh and so Carshalton went into their shell for the rest of the half.

However, in the 39th minute Kalvin Lumbombo-Kalaia on the right cut in and from 20 yards his curling effort was pushed around the post by Henry Molyneux, then a minute later Luke Read saw his 20-yard effort saved at the second attempt by Molyneux.

Chatham took the lead in the 45th minute when John Ufuah on the right wing saw his low cross to the back post find Jamie Yila who saw his shot hit a defender then come back to him and from two yards poked into the net.

Half time arrived and Kevin Hake would not have been impressed with his team despite being in front while Peter Adeniyi would want his team to defend well and hope they could catch Chatham on the break so they could get back into the game.

The second half was only one minute old when Chatham doubled their lead when a long ball into the channel for Freddie Sears to run on to and he went into the area and shot past Watkins.

Carshalton looked broke after this but in the 51st minute they nearly got a goal back when David Smith saw his deflected shot from 20 yards come back off the cross bar for a corner.

In the 55th minute Chatham secured the points when a one two between Webster and Yila saw Yila set free on the right and his low cross to the back post found Ufuah who shot in from two yards.

The game was now open and could Chatham get a fourth, in the 78th minute Carshalton nearly got a consolation goal when Kola Salami three yards out saw his shot superbly saved by Molyneux.

Two minutes later Ufuah on the left saw his low cross to the back post find Webster and his shot from three yards was superbly saved by Watkins.

Another chance came for a consolation goal for Carshalton when Fabio Camacho-Saraiva’s header was saved by Molyneux, then the full time whistle went and Chatham’s season continues with the Velocity Cup Final on Wednesday and the possibility of a play-off position.
