Chatham Town 2-3 Bromley

On a baking Medway evening, a strong Bromley eleven battled back from two goals down to edge a really enjoyable pre-season contest against Chatham Town.

The home side had led courtesy of goals from Khale Da Costa and skipper Jack Evans, but a second half trick from Olufela Olomola gave the Football League’s newest club the win on an evening when they sent half their first team squad to Medway with the other half heading for Braintree.

Those who stayed in Kent included Byron Webster, Levi Amanchi and Sam Wood to name but three and a really entertaining contest was viewed by a sizeable Tuesday evening crowd.

Freddie Sears had the home sides first real chance sending a snapshot just too high before Amanchi set up the visitors first opportunity which was volleyed a yard wide.

The home side took the lead when their Trialist full back made a terrific run down the left and his ball in was poked home at the front post by the outstretched leg of Da Costa.

Bromley reacted well to going behind and should really have levelled but a free header from a free kick went wide and a shot was fired over from the edge of the box allowing the Chats to take full advantage on the stroke of half time.

This time it was Kofi Anokye-Boadi who did well out wide and as his centre was stabbed away by the defence, Evans returned the ball with considerable interest into the net just before the half time whistle blew.

The second half saw Bromley up the tempo, and they got back into the game when Amanchi was allowed a free header to score past the Chats Trialist keeper who by this time was carrying what looked like an ankle injury.

Anokye-Boadi and Evans then combined for the Chats skipper to shoot straight at the keeper – a miss that was to prove costly for the home side as a couple of minutes later, Amanchi was able to turn home a ball from the wing that seemed to go in off the unlucky Simon Cooper who had just come on for the home side.

With the game level, it became very stretched with Da Costa being denied by the keeper when brilliantly played through one on one!

Amanchi then completed the Bromley recovery taking advantage of some tired defending to hammer the ball home late on but there was still a chance for the home side to share the spoils, but Jamari Christmas’ late shot was just too high.
