This was a game of two halves as Chatham Town were ordinary in the first while Potters Bar were efficient and deserved their two-goal lead, but the second half saw the Chats up the ante and in the dying seconds could have won the game.
The game started with Potters Bar in charge and in the 11th minute a ball into the area found Chayne Face Burgin, but he stabbed his shot just past the post from three yards. Then in the 17th minute Ben Ward-Cochrane saw his 25-yard shot get deflected over the crossbar.
Potters Bar took a deserved lead with a Chatham error, Charlie Naylor received the ball 35 yards out and his intended pass back to Joe Wright went straight to Brandon Adams who from 15 yards shot past Wright.
Three minutes later it could have been two when a throw into the area fell at Adams feet and his shot from six yards came back off the crossbar.
Chatham against the run of play could have equalised in the 32nd minute when Freddie Sears latched onto a long ball on the left and passed into the path of Jack Evans, but his side foot effort went tamely wide from 18 yards.
In the 44th minute an Evans corner to the near post found Simon Cooper, he turned quickly and shot from five yards, but Laurie Shala saved his effort.
Potters Bar did double their lead in the 45th minute when Reece Butler failed in trying to shield the ball out and a cross came into the Chats area and from one yard Ward-Cochrane slotted home.
In the sixth minute of added on time Chatham had the chance to pull a goal back when a free kick to the back post saw Kofi Anokye Boadi head back across goal for Stuart O’Keefe, but he shot wide.
Half time arrived and the home crowd were in shock as it was such a dismal performance from their heroes while Potters Bar were in heaven and looking good for the three points.
The second half saw Chatham come out with purpose while Potters Bar were content with keeping the score as it was.
In the 53rd minute Evans saw his 25-yard free kick deflected for a corner and from the resulting corner Chatham scored. The corner came over and bounced around the area, eventually Shala spilled the ball and Butler six yards out smashed it in.
Chatham were now running the show and in the 65th minute a quick throw in found Kareem Isiaka in the area and from an acute angle he shot wide.
Four minutes later another free kick from Evans 25 yards out went just wide. In the 82nd minute Chatham got the equaliser when a free kick wide on the right saw Evans blast it goalwards, Cooper got a touch to it and divert it into the net.
In the 86th minute Potters Bar had their first chance of the half when Face Burgin saw his shot pushed around the post by Wright, another chance came in the third minute of added on time when Adams latched onto a long ball and as he went forward towards goal his shot from 18 yards went just past the post.
A minute later David Hicks should have wrapped the points up when a ball into the box fell at his feet and from six yards out, he shot over the bar.
Chatham then had the last chance of the game when a cross into the area saw Valckz Fernandes rose but from eight yards his header went past the post. The full-time whistle went and, in the end, both sides deserved a point a piece.
