The result does not tell the full story of this Chatham Town victory over Haringey Borough, with both sides having players sent off, Haringey walking off the pitch and it taking five further minutes before the game was restarted.
The game started quickly for Haringey when against the odds they took the lead in the third minute when Ben Allen formally of this parish tried his luck from 25 yards forcing Mitchell Beeney to palm it away but unfortunately for him it went straight to Matthew Young who shot home from six yards.
It took another nine minutes before Chatham had a chance when Ashley Nzala in the area forced Dillon Barnes to save it with his legs. In the 18th minute Chatham equalised when Scarlett went down the right wing got to the by-line and his cross into the area was headed out but to Jack Evans who from six yards stabbed home.
Everyone thought that this would get Chatham going but they huffed and puffed without causing any problems except in the 35th minute when Evans saw his 35-yard effort pushed away by Barnes.
The half time whistle went, and the home supporters were very quiet as they expected a win against lowly opposition but as in recent weeks they take time to get going and they were hoping that they would be better in the second half.
The second half saw Chatham up the tempo and in the 52nd minute Danny Kedwell fed Chris Dickson and from 10 yards his goal bound volley was pushed away by Barnes.
Then in the 58th minute they took the lead when Jamie Yila on the left went into the area and passed to Evans who passed straight away to Nzala who from eight yards slotted home.
Six minutes later it nearly became three as Kareem Isiaka received the ball in the area and his shot was pushed away for a corner. In the 66th minute in a rare attack Olu Durojaiye saw his 25-yard shot pushed around the post by Beeney.
The game came was going along smoothly then in the 82nd minute it went mad when Barnes and Scarlett clashed, then all the players joined in.
Once the players had separated the referee Richard Carter took his red card out and sent Barnes and Scarlett off, but this was not the end as the players of Haringey walked off the pitch in protest and it took five minutes for them to get back onto the pitch.
While we were waiting for the game to begin J’Ardell Stirling took over in goal. In the fourth minute of added on time Stirling came to the rescue of Haringey when Jamie Mascoll in the area saw his goal bound shot saved. Then a minute later an Evans corner to the near post saw Reece Butler volley just over the bar.
In the 14th minute off added on time Evans saw his shot pushed away by Stirling. Chatham were trying to get a third, but Stirling and bad finishing stopped them getting there, the final whistle went with 16 minutes added in total, Chatham had got the three points which almost cements their play-offs position, they need another two points to make sure.
