Chatham Town only got the victory when two goals in the last 10 minutes earned the win over a gallant Erith Town as the visitors caused the home side a few problems but The Chats continue in their quest for the title and promotion.
Chatham came out of the blocks the quickest as in the 5th minute a lovely cross field pass found Jack Evans in the area & he controlled it & cut in & his shot was saved by Dan Smith.
In the 8th minute Erith had a wonderful chance to score when Fred Obasa on the left beat Ike Orji & his shot was saved by Andy Walkers Legs & then Reece Butler acrobatically cleared but only to Steadman Callender but from one yard his shot hit the post.
Six minutes later Chatham took the lead when a cross into the area saw Danny Kedwell knocked the ball down to Evans who from 8 yards shot home.
Normally this season this most teams suddenly get crushed by Chatham but Erith kept going & in the 24th minute Callender in the area saw his shot saved by Walker.
The game ebbed & flowed & in the 33rd minute it was Chatham’s turn to have a chance when Ryan Hayes put Dan Bradshaw in on goal & as he went into the area he twisted & turned before his shot from eight yards went wide, a minute later a throw to Danny Kedwell who instantly passed to Evans his first time effort from 20 yards curled past the post.
Another half chance came in the 38th minute when Hayes on the right wing crossed into the area for Bradshaw but his header went over the bar.
In the 42nd minute Obasa on the left wing beat Orji & ran into the area only for Orji to get back & tackle him & the ball went to Walker but the crowd were waiting for the whistle to give a penalty but to no avail & Chatham possibly got away with that one.
The second half took a while to get going but in the 61st minute Harry Gamble in on goal from an acute angle saw Walker save it then three minutes later Chatham nearly doubled their lead when a Hayes corner to the back post saw Dean Beckwith’s header go over Smith but Harry Lawrence headed it off the line.
Chatham were now starting to have a lot of possession but Erith were standing up to the challenge. In the 82nd minute Chatham nearly scored a fluky goal when Evans in the area saw him challenged by a defender & the ball hit Rhys Bartlett’s legs & the ball went slowly past the post.
In the 85th minute they did score when a Evans corner to the near post & Bradshaw’s bullit header hit the back of the net then four minutes later it was three when a Evans free kick saw Bradshaw flicked it on for Bartlett who from 1 yard headed in & in the 92nd minute Evans saw his 25 yard free kick pushed it around the post by Smith, the final whistle went & Erith can feel that 3-0 flattered Chatham but they won’t care
