Charlton bring in Norwich keeper

Charlton have signed Norwich keeper, Declan Rudd, on a year long loan.

Diss born Rudd is 25-years-old and made 11 Premier League appearances for the Canaries last season.

Rudd was Russell Slade’s top target and the manager was thrilled to have got his man, and had this to say after the news broke:

“We have been patient in waiting for our number one target, and we are delighted that our patience has been rewarded.

“We feel like we have got a top goalkeeper in Declan, and he was so enthusiastic and could not wait to get started today. That is what he is all about.

“He is a very efficient, all-round goalkeeper; his kicking his good, he manages his box well and he is a very good shot stopper. We are very pleased to have him. said Slade.

Rudd was equally enthusiastic and said:

“It’s brilliant to have the move sorted, and I am really happy to be down here and part of the squad.

“As soon as I got the call about the possibility about coming to Charlton it was a no brainer for me.

“This is huge club with great history and facilities, and we have a great manager and staff here, and hopefully we can achieve our goal this season which is, of course, to bounce straight back up to the Championship.”

Rudd’s quality will give him claims to be the best keeper in League One.

Slade was used to working without money to spend at Orient, and his brief at Cardiff was to reduce costs. So he will be patient and only bring players in who he believes are right for the club.

He will not panic buy, he will take his time to get the players he wants.

It is gratifying to see his philosophy rewarded.
