Southend have made a solid – if unspectacular – start to the season, with a win, a defeat and three draws to their name.
They are in talks with former Addicks midfielder, Josh Wright, who may sign in time to face his old club.
Karl Robinson will have Josh Magennis and Jay Dasilva available again following the international break, and they look certain to return to the starting line-up.
Karlan Ahearne-Grant had to be taken off at Oldham and may miss this game, while Ben Reeves will not be considered as Robinson explained:
“I’d like to think he (Reeves) will be in the squad by a week on Saturday, and then we’ll start looking to do another intense programme at the back-end of next week not having a midweek game.”
Rangers loanee, Joe Dodoo, scored on his debut at Boundary Park and Robinson was surprised at his ability:
“He’s quick, he’s raw, he’s ruthless when he gets into the final third, even in training the other day.
“What I’ve been very surprised with him, is for a big boy who is that quick, I didn’t expect his feet to be that good. He’s got great feet, really good in tight areas.
“Someone who possesses that much power and pace, that’s not always something that comes along with them. He’s been excellent, he’s fitted into the group really well.”
Dodoo is an ideal player to bring on against a tiring defence, and is likely to make his Valley bow from the bench.
Charlton could line-up like this:
Amos; Solly, Bauer, Pearce, Dasilva; Kashi, Forster-Caskey, Fosu, Clarke, Holmes, Magennis.
Subs: Phillips, Konsa, Sarr, Jackson, Aribo, Dodoo, Hackett-Fairchild.
The referee will be Gavin Ward from Surrey.
The Addicks will be hoping to extend the Shrimpers’ barren run in SE7 and add another three points to their tally.
