Charlton Athletic v Reading Preview
Charlton Athletic v Reading Preview

It has been a disappointing season for Charlton’s Under-21 side with Thursday’s 4-0 defeat at Bristol City summing it up.The Valley

The defeat extinguished the team’s feint hopes of retaining the title. They can now finish no higher than fifth.

Jose Riga will be buoyed by Tuesday’s win at Leeds and will be hoping to pass another milestone against Reading. The head coach is still looking for his first Saturday win since taking charge at The Valley.

Reading will probably be disappointed with their season, they currently occupy the last play-off spot but the Royals harboured genuine hopes of finishing in the top two. Ironically, if results go their way, Leicester can seal promotion to the Premier League this weekend.

Reading have stuttered recently but most of their problems have come at the Madejski. On their travels, the Royals have won four and drawn one of their last five games.

Adam Le Fondre continues to weigh in with plenty of goals, despite often being used from the bench. Le Fondre has netted 13 times this season and is a potent weapon against a tiring defence.

Riga continues to shuffle his pack up front as he seeks to find his best strike force. Wood and Dervite have shared responsibilities in central defence and Cousins and Ajdarevic have missed the odd game, but otherwise the team has been fairly settled since the new boss arrived.

The Addicks could look something like this:

Hamer; Wilson, Morrison, Dervite, Wiggins; Cousins, Poyet, Jackson, Ajdarevic; Obika, Sordell.

Subs: Phillips, Nego, Wood, Petrucci, Harriott, Ghoochannejhad, Pigott.

The referee will be Andy Madley from West Yorkshire.

Despite the quality of the opposition, this is a game where Riga will be hopeful of getting some kind of a result.
