Lee Bowyer is delighted to have Igor Vetokele back in training again. Vetokele has been out since picking up a foot injury in the pre-season game at Welling in July.

The boss had this to say on Monday:

“Igor joined in training today (Monday], which is a big positive and we have, hopefully, got the rest of them (injured players) coming back into training – apart from Billy Clarke – from Monday.

“We’ve got to be careful with them, we can’t rush them and chuck them all back in at the deep end. It’s good to start getting some bodies back because it seems like they have been out forever.

“What them coming back does is create competition for places and it makes our bench stronger.

“The lads who have been involved from the start of the season have done well, they have all taken everything on board and have worked hard.

“For the lads coming back now, they will have to fight to get into the team, for sure.”

Bowyer will obviously still be missing Jake Forster-Caskey, as well as Clarke.

Table-topping‎ Paterborough visit The Valley on Tuesday evening, and the Addicks will need to improve on Saturday’s performance if they are to take something from the game.

As Bowyer mentioned after the Accrington game, some of the team’s decision making was shocking.

Peterborough are a free scoring side, so Charlton will need to tighten up defensively – a first clean sheet of the season would not go amiss.

Bowyer’s side will also need to make the most of their opportunities in front of goal.

Last season’s encounter at The Valley saw the Addicks score two late, late goals to snatch a point in a thrilling game. They even came close to getting a winner.

They will have to be at their best to take something from this game, and Bowyer may again switch between 4-4-2 and 3-5-2 during the course of the game.

Charlton could look something like this:

Phillips; Solly, Bauer, Sarr, Page; Lapslie, Bielik, Pratley, Aribo; Taylor, Grant.

Subs: Steer, Dijsteel, Marshall, Morgan, Hackett-Fairchild, Ajose.

‎The referee will be James Linington from the Isle of Wight.

Bowyer’s side will need to sharpen up on their performance at Accrington if they are to take something from this game.
