Charlton Athletic v Leeds United preview

It was confirmed on Thursday afternoon that Charlton’s FA Cup tie at Colchester will be played on Saturday 9 January.

The Addicks have been given an initial allocation of 1,024 seats, with adult tickets priced at £16.50, OAPs £11.00 and lower age band prices varying between £3 and £13.

Tickets will go straight on general sale early next week.

Before that, Karel Fraeye’s side will face Leeds at The Valley on Saturday. Though they lost at the Amex last week, there were enough positives to give Charlton confidence for this game.

The Addicks picked up a number of injuries at Brighton, but Fraeye indicated at his Thursday press conference that they have all recovered.

The head coach will have the added bonus of having skipper, Johnnie Jackson, available again.

Patrick Bauer’s second red card of the season will rule him out of this game, as well as Tuesday’s clash with Bolton.

Charlton were terrific in the first half at the Amex, and Fraeye is unlikely to tamper with his team too much.

Stephen Henderson, Chris Solly and Morgan Fox all look set to start again, but Fraeye will have a decision to make in central defence.

Harry Lennon needed stitches to the head wound he picked up at Brighton, but will available for this match.

Naby Sarr is the natural replacement for Bauer, but Fraeye may feel uneasy about pairing two relatively inexperienced left-footers together.

Alou Diarra has been influential in his shielding midfield role, but may be moved back to defence on Saturday.

Fraeye may opt to play Jordan Cousins and Jackson as holding midfielders, with Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Reza Ghoochannejhad and Ademola Lookman further forward.

Ricardo Vaz Te is likely to be the front runner.

The Addicks could line-up something like this:

Henderson; Solly, Diarra, Lennon, Fox; Cousins, Jackson; Gudmundsson, Ghoochannejhad, Lookman; Vaz Te.

Subs: Pope, Holmes-Dennis, Sarr, Ba, Charles-Cook, Ahearne-Grant, Makienok.

The referee will be Andy Davies from Hampshire.

Any side managed by Steve Evans will be competitive and hard working. Backed by their usual large following, Leeds will be difficult to beat.

Fraeye will have been pleased with most of his team’s recent performances, and will be hopeful of getting a result.
