On Tuesday evening Charlton Athletic host Crawley Town in a Sky Bet League One match.
Mid-table Charlton will be looking to build on their two consecutive wins leading into this match. Their last encounter was on Saturday in the second round of the F.A. Cup when they avoided a potential banana skin by winning four-nil at Walsall, Gasan Ahadme opened the scoring just after the fifteen minute point and Matt Godden added a second shortly before the half hour mark.
There was no further scoring until Ahadme added a second with five minutes remaining and Tyreece Campbell rounded it off in stoppage time. That result followed up on the Addicks hard fought one-nil win at Burton Albion when Conor Coventry scored with eight minutes remaining.
Newly promoted Crawley are just one place above the relegation zone. They were knocked out of the cup on Saturday when losing four-three at home to Lincoln City. Jack Roles and Tola Showunmi put them two up in under fifteen minutes however, the scores were level by half time.
Two Lincoln goals in a minute early in the second half put the visitors well in command and Jeremy Kelly’s goal with eight minutes remaining proved to be no more than a consolation. Their last league game was at home to Doncaster Rovers, which they won one-nil courtesy of a goal by Will Swan.
At home, Charlton have won three, drawn three and lost one whilst Crawley have struggled on the road having won one, drawn two and lost seven. Their last meeting was in September 2023 in the EFL Trophy at Crawley with the hosts winning four-three. Harry Foster put the home team ahead in the first minute but Charlton scored twice through Myles Leaburn and Campbell. Parity was restored by Klaidi Lolos in first half stoppage time.
George Dobson put the Addicks back ahead but goals by Nick Tsaroulla and Rafiq Khaleel settled it in favour of Crawley.
That game is unlikely to have any influence on Tuesday’s outcome. Victory for Charlton could take them to within two points of the play-offs whilst Crawley need points to ease away from the bottom four.
