The Addicks needed a last gasp goal to salvage a point at Luton last Saturday, and they crashed to a 5-3 defeat at Scunthorpe on Tuesday. Lee Bowyer will feel that his team deserved more than one point for their efforts.
It will be no easy task on Saturday though. The Sky Blues will bring more than 2,000 fans to south London, so there should be a cracking atmosphere at The Valley.
Bowyer will be without Lewis Page, who could be out for a while with a groin problem, and Darren Pratley who will be suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the campaign at Glanford Park on Tuesday.
Bowyer will have a decision to make about who to play in goal. He prefers Jed Steer’s better distribution skills, but the Aston Villa loanee had indifferent games at Luton and Scunthorpe.
Dillon Phillips is an excellnt shot stopper and may be preferred for this game.
When Page went off at Glanford Park, the reshuffled defence featured three players playing out of position.
Krystian Bielik is back in training, and Bowyer may be tempted to bring him straight back in. He could take the right centre-back berth, allowing Jason Pearce to revert to his more favoured left side.
That in turn would allow Naby Sarr to move to left-back, with Chris Solly switching back to play on the right.
Josh Cullen and Joe Aribo have been in fine form recently, with Ben Reeves and Tariqe Fosu likely to join them in the midfield quartet.
Lyle Taylor and Karlan Grant look likely to continue their partnership up front.
Charlton could line-up like this:
Phillips; Solly, Bielik, Pearce, Sarr; Cullen, Aribo, Reeves, Fosu; Taylor, Grant.
Subs: Steer, Dijksteel, Lapslie, Marshall, Ward, Vetokele, Ajose.
The referee will be Ben Toner from Lamcashire.
Bowyer will be hopeful that his side can halt their mini slump and return to winning ways.
