Charlton go into Saturday’s game with Bury looking to end a two match losing sequence.
Prior to that, the Addicks had won four in a row, and Karl Robinson will be looking to regain that momentum.
Bury are in the lower echelons of the table, and have lost three and drawn one of their four away games.
Robinson is aware that in the three games that his team have conceded the first goal, they have lost.
It is not a statistic that bothers the manager, as his team created plenty of chances in those games, partucularly against Plymouth and Gillingham.
Robinson spoke about the recent defeats at his press conference on Thursday:
”We’ve analysed our last two games in depth. We gave ourselves some time to allow that immediate emotion to fade and it is very clear why we didn’t get the results we wanted.
“Against Wigan, our two wingers got dragged too deep by their two full-backs, rather than us dominating their two full-backs.
“Our 10 ended up too deep and that made it look like we only had one striker up front, rather than our usual four being higher up the pitch. We have spoken about that.
“Against Gillingham, their keeper got Man of the Match, so our finishing obviously needs to be better.
“It is as simple and classified as that. It wasn’t bad finishing from one individual, it was a number of us. We hit the target a lot but could not beat the goalkeeper and his 6ft 9in frame,” said Robinson.
Charlton will have to do without the suspended Ricky Holmes for this game, but are likely to be otherwise unchanged.
Karlan Ahearne-Grant looks the most likely candidate to replace Holmes, and Ben Reeves could be on the substitutes bench.
The Addicks could line-up like this:
Amos; Solly, Bauer, Pearce, Dasilva; Kashi, Forster-Caskey, Fosu, Clarke. Ahearne-Grant; Magennis.
Subs: Phillips, Jackson, Konsa, Sarr, Aribo, Reeves, Dodoo.
The referee will be Dean Whitestone from Northamptonshire.
This is a game that Robinson will be confident of winning, though he may have to be patient.
Lee Clark is a cautious manager, and is likely to set his team up to frustrate Charlton. But warranted they take their chances, the Addicks should return to winning ways.
