Influential midfield anchor, Ahmed Kashi, could be sidelined for the rest of the season. Kashi has been troubled with an Achilles problem since September.
Though primarily a shield for the back four, Kashi is best remembered for a stunning goal in the Capital One Cup game at Peterborough.
Receiving the ball just inside Peterborough’s half, Kashi spotted Ben Alnwick off his line, and floated the ball over the keeper’s head from 45 yards.
Physio, Erol Umut, explained the situation to the club’s website on Monday:
“We have tried the conservative route and Ahmed has had a number of consultations with specialists, both here and abroad, and we have come to the decision that an operation will be necessary.
“Obviously, any operation will leave a player laid out for a longer period of time and that is what we were trying to avoid. He is now due to undergo keyhole surgery this week, after which we will know more from the surgeon’s findings.
“The worst case scenario will see Ahmed miss the rest of the season, but we’re hoping it will be something more simple to rectify, so that we can have him back sooner rather than later,” said Umut.
After concerns were voiced about tickets for the FA Cup match at Colchester going straight on general sale, the club have revised their plans, and tickets will now go on restricted sale on Tuesday morning.
The Addicks have been given an initial allocation of just over 1,000, and Valley Gold members and season ticket holders only, will be allowed to purchase two tickets each. Any remaining tickets will be put on general sale on Thursday.
Bottom club, Bolton, will visit The Valley on Tuesday evening. The Trotters are rock bottom and are beset with off field problems.
Bolton have massive debts, and going into administration looks a distinct possibility. They would suffer a 12 point deduction if the administrator is called in.
Neil Lennon’s team have drawn 0-0 at Lancashire rivals Blackburn and Preston, but have lost their eight other away games.
This is a game Karel Fraeye will be desperate to win, as he strives to guide the club away from the relegation zone.
Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Leeds was a hard, physical encounter, but if the players have all recovered, Fraeye is likely to name an unchanged team.
Ricardo Vaz Te looked completely shattered before he was taken off, but he is a player Fraeye will want to start this match.
Charlton could line-up like this:
Henderson; Solly, Diarra, Lennon, Holmes-Dennis; Cousins, Jackson; Gudmundsson, Ghoochannejhad, Lookman; Vaz Te.
Subs: Pope, Fox, Sarr, Ba, Charles-Cook, Ahearne-Grant, Makienok.
The referee will be Bedfordshire’s Graham Horwood.
The Addicks have recorded just four wins in their first twenty games. They need to embark on a winning run quickly, and Fraeye would be disappointed to take anything less than three points from this fixture.
