Charlton Athletic will play the first of four consecutive home fixtures when AFC Wimbledon visit The Valley on Saturday.
If, as expected, the game at Shrewsbury is called off because of international call ups, that sequence will be extended to six.
Given his long association with MK Dons, Karl Robinson is not exactly popular with the Wimbledon fans, but it does not cloud his view of Wombles gaffer, Neal Ardley.
Robinson said this about Ardley at his Thursday press conference:
“Neal is very astute in everything he does. The club has sort of grown out of the Kingstonian ground now.
“I know they are looking to move on to a bigger stadium and it’s about right for them as they are getting bigger.
“He always makes it difficult for us and for everybody. They had a great result against Rotherham, they are going to be a difficult team to compete against.
“For what he’s achieved at that football club is remarkable. His staff, who I know, are very, very good. His team is honest and hard-working with some very good players in it as well.”
Wimbledon are a physical side who play direct football. Tom Elliott was the focal point of their attack last season, and scored the stoppage time equaliser that robbed the Addicks of all three points at Kingsmeadow in February.
Elliott moved to Millwall in the summer, and Wimbledon are still looking for an effective replacement.
Robinson may be inclined to stick with the team that did so well at Bradford last week. Naby Sarr’s greater physical presence may see him retain the left-back berth ahead of Jay Dasilva.
Mark Marshall and Lewis Page are fit again and will be pushing for places on the bench.
Charlton could look like this:
Amos; Solly, Konsa, Bauer, Sarr; Kashi, Forster-Caskey, Holmes, Clarke, Fosu; Magennis.
Subs: Phillips, Dasilva, Jackson, Aribo, Reeves, Marshall, Dodoo.
Robinson’s team may have to be patient, but it is a game where the manager will be targeting three points.
