Charlton Athletic 3-2 Yeovil Town
Charlton Athletic 3-2 Yeovil Town
As open and entertaining a game as you could ever wish to see, albeit the nerves were certainly jangling at the end.The Valley2
Leon Cort made a late cameo appearance after a long absence and Yohann Thuram-Ulien also returned to the bench. Lawrie Wilson was sidelined by an eye injury, Michael Morrison switched to right-back with Richard Wood partnering Dorian Dervite in the middle. Joe Pigott made the bench.
Simon Church was not included in the squad, something that apparently saw him confront Jose Riga on Monday. Marvin Sordell replaced Church as the front runner.
The game got off to an explosive start and both sides scored inside the first eleven minutes.First, Astrit Ajdarevic broke clear on the right before cutting inside to rifle the Addicks ahead from 25 yards. Two minutes later, Rhoys Wiggins played Joel Grant onside and the winger steered the ball home to restore parity.

There were chances aplenty for both sides and it was a surprise that there was no addition to the score before the interval.

Charlton’s best efforts came right at the end of the half. Marvin Sordell drew a good save from Chris Dunn and Richard Wood saw his attempt cleared off the line.

The second period got off to an even quicker start and three minutes in, the Adicks were in front again. Johnnie Jackson’s left-wing corner was met by an unstoppable header from Dorian Dervite.

Another three minutes elapsed before Marvin Sordell added a third – for only the second time this season – from close range following good work down the right by Diego Poyet and Reza Ghoochannejhad.

The match was guaranteed a nail biting finish when Yeovil reduced the arrears with just over a quarter of an hour left.

Ben Hamer rushed to the edge of his box but failed to get to the ball. It was played square for one time Charlton target, Kieffer Moore, to guide home.

Both sides had further chances to score but the Addicks saw the game out to maintain their unbeaten league record against the Glovers.

Results elsewhere – aside from Millwall’s surprise win at Wigan – went in Charlton’s favour.
