Charlton secured their Championship status for a third season with a 3-1 win over Watford at The Valley on Tuesday evening.
Two spectacular strikes from Callum Harriott and a coolly taken effort from Johnnie Jackson was enough to see off Watford.
Jose Riga utilised Diego Poyet and Jackson as holding midfielders with Lawrie Wilson, Jordan Cousins and Harriott pushed forward to support lone striker, Marvin Sordell.
Harriott opened the scoring with his first goal of the season midway through the opening period. The winger’s thunderous shot from the edge of the box giving Jonathon Bond no chance.
The lead was almost short lived, four minutes later a Troy Deeney shot was turned on to the post by Jackson.
Deeney had better luck on the hour mark when his dipping volley from the edge of the box beat Ben Hamer to restore parity for the Hornets.
The nerves of the home fans were soothed ten minutes later when a cross field move involving Wilson and Morgan Fox saw the young full-back play the ball into Jackson.
After initially mis-kicking, the skipper reacted sharply to turn the ball beyond Bond to put the Addicks back in front.
Harriott completed the scoring after 77 minutes with a stunning volley from Wilson’s cross, to send The Valley into collective rapture.
Albert Riera received a second yellow card dor a high tackle on Poyet two minutes later to reduce Watford to ten men for the final few minutes of the game.
So the Addicks preserved their Championship status with a game to spare. Their long suffering fans will be looking forward to a stress free day by the sea when they visit. Blackpool on Saturday.
