Lee Bowyer completed a hat-trick of wins with a comprehensive 3-1 victory over Rotherham at The Valley on Monday afternoon.

A thumping strike from Michal Zyro, and a brace from Joe Aribo done the damage. Former Addick, Richard Wood, netted a consolation for the Millers.

Bowyer made two changes to the team that won at Northampton on Friday. Ezri Konsa came in for Anfernee Dijksteel who dropped to the bench, and Jay Dasilva replaced Lewis Page who was rested.

Bowyer adopted a standard 4-4-2 formation for this game.

Charlton had an early scare when Will Vaulks crashed a shot against the bar in the first minute. The midfielder’s follow up header went over the top.

‎Vaulks had another chance eight minutes later, but he put Anthony Forde’s cross over the bar.

The Addicks’ first opportunity came shortly after, but Tariqe Fosu curled his free-kick just wide.

Fosu had to be substituted after 18 minutes after appearing to injure his thigh. The knock is not serious though, and he may even be available for Saturday’s trip to Bristol Rovers.

Referee, Graham Horwood, awarded Charlton a penalty for a clear handball in the area after 21 minutes, only to change his mind and give Rotherham a free-kick for a push.

The visitors’ respite was only brief though. Seven minutes later Josh Emmanuel inexplicably turned a high ball into the path of Zyro. The striker thundered a shot across the keeper and into the far corner to give the hosts the lead.

There was a lengthy delay just past the half-hour mark when referee, Graham Horwood, had to be replaced.

A sweeping move early in the second-half ended with Zyro going close, but the Addicks did double their advantage nine minutes after the restart.

Jake Forster-Caskey took a free-kick on the left, and Joe Aribo rose unopposed to nod the ball back across the keeper.

Midway through the half, Charlton made the game safe. They broke from their own penalty area, Aribo exchanged passes with Nicky Ajose on the halfway line, and crashed home a shot off the underside of the bar.

Wood netted a consolation‎ for Rotherham 13 minutes from time. Ben Amos saved Michael Smith’s close range header from a long throw, but Wood was on hand to bundle home the rebound.

The win puts the Addicks back in the play-off zone. The Millers were a tough, physical outfit, and Bowyer would have been delighted with the way his team dealt with the challenge.
