A twelfth draw of the season, two points dropped from a winning position for the seventh time, another late goal conceded at The Valley and a golden opportunity to win the game at the death spurned, was not the Christmas present Addicks fans were looking for.

Bob Peeters played a diamond midfield to compensate for the loss of Johnnie Jackson and Francis Coquelin.

Yoni Buyens returned to play at the base, Chris Solly moved forward to partner Jordan Cousins in the centre and Johann Gudmundsson was at the tip, just behind Callum Harriott and Igor Vetokele.

Solly’s move into midfield allowed Joe Gomez to come in on the right side of the defence.

Blackpool started brightly and Nick Pope had to make a smart early save to turn aside Kevin Foley’s free-kick.

The visitors took the lead after 25 minutes thoigh. Jamie O’Hara delivered a teasing corner from the right, Pope failed to land a clean punch on the ball and Nyron Nosworthy’s header looked to be going in before Chris Eagles added the final touch.

Charlton drew level seven minutes before the break when Yoni Buyens converted his fourth penalty of the season.

Gudmundsson crossed from the left and Vetokele was brought down before he got his shot away.Buyens waited for Joe Lewis to dive to his left before putting the ball in the opposite corner.

In truth, the first half was a dreadful affair.

The Addicks started the second period in brighter fashion and ten minutes after the break, they took the lead.

Morgan Fox carried the ball from his own half, fed Cousins who fired beyond Lewis and into the far corner from 20 yards.

It seemed the hosts were heading for only their third win since September but they were foiled in the 89th minute. TalBen Haim was booked for a tackle from behind on Ishmael Miller.

Tony McMahon floated the subsequent free-kick towards Steve Davies, who beat Pope to the ball and headed into the unguarded net to level things up.

Deep into the five added minutes, Charlton had a glorious chance to snatch all three points.

George Tucudean drove into the area from the left and pulled the ball back to give Andre Bikey a golden chance to score.

The big defender took his time, steadied himself, but somehow managed to scoop the ball over the bar when it seemed easier to score.

So another draw and a hugely frustrating afternoon for the Valley faithful.
