A pulsating game at The Valley saw the Addicks get their first win in the Championship since they beat Norwich in May 2009.

As expected, Leicester had plenty of pace and counter attacked at breathtaking speed.

Early arrivals at the ground got the news from club officials that Ricardo Fuller had completed his move. Fuller was introduced to the crowd at half time.

Lloyd Dyer on the Leicester left-wing looked incredibly like old Valley favourite, Shaun Newton, in style.

There was a lively opening to what turned out to be a cracking game. The Foxes always looked a threat but flattered to deceive on occasions.

The Addicks went ahead after 18 minutes. A terrific through ball from Bradley Pritchard dissected the Foxes defence. Wright-Phillips took a touch and it looked as though Pritchard, who had carroed on with his run, might take the ball off Wright-Phillips’ toe. But the striker fired a shot across Schmeichel and into the far corner from just outside the area.

Yann Kermorgant was the target of the Leicester boo boys but he responded in the best possible style by doubling the hosts advantage after 32 minutes. A trade mark Hollands long throw from the left fell kindly for the Frenchman, who scored from close range, hitting his shot with real power before turning to the Leicester fans and putting a finger to his lips.

Nigel Pearson made a double substitution at the break, introducing Andy King and David Nugent for Matty James and Jermaine Beckford. It proved to be an inspired change. Just nine minutes into the second period, Ben Marshall sped down the right, fired in a cross, and King arrived bang on cue to smash the ball past Hamer.

The visitors went on to have the better of the subsequent exchanges but the Charlton back line stood firm to secure the three points. Hamer is giving the back line so much confidence this season and Cort and particularly Morrison had outstanding games. Pritchard’s influence on midfield is important and Wright-Phillips put in another big shift.

Powell will feel his side deserved at least the four points they have gained from their opening two games as he prepares for Saturday’s visit of Hull.
