Old boys, Michael Morrison, and bette noir, Yann Kermorgant, came back to haunt the Foxes as the Addicks completed a third successive 2-1 win over Leicester.Charlton Athletic

Chris Powell continued with the 3-5-2 formation he utilised at Huddersfield on Tuesday.

With Richard Wood injured, Powell did not have a naturally left footed central defender available. Dorian Dervite – the central of the trio at the back on Tuesday – switched to the left, allowing Leon Cort to come in as the middle defender with Michael Morrison continuing on the right.

Morrison had his most comfortable game for some while.

Lawrie Wilson continued on the right and had a good game. Chris Solly was sidelined again with his knee niggle. Rhoys Wiggins returned on the left and Dale Stephens was again flanked by Bradley Pritchard and Johnnie Jackson in the centre of the park .

Simon Church and Yann Kermorgant returned in attack.

Leicester used the system and the afternoon was to produce an entertaining game.

Charlton went ahead after 27 minutes. Yann Kermorgant was fouled on the right and Kasper Schmeichel conceded a corner when he failed to connect cleanly with an attempted punch on the resultant free-kick.

Stephens swung in a wicked corner from the left and Morrison’s towering header thundered into the net to give hosts the lead.

The Addicks started the second period brightly and Schmeichel was forced to go full length to his right to turn a Kermorgant free-kick round the post.

The Foxes were reduced to ten men after 51 minutes. A quick break by the visitors broke down in the box with Leicester convinced that they should have been awarded a penalty. Matty James protested too vehemently and received a second yellow card.

Charlton took full advantage and doubled their lead seven minutes later. A right-wing corner from Johnnie Jackson was nodded in at the far post by Kermorgant.

If the Addicks thought the game was over, they were wrong. Just four minutes later, Danny Drinkwater converted a left wing cross to halve the arrears.

Kermorgant was foiled midway through the half by an outstanding save by Schmeichel. The big Dane plunged to his right to somehow prevent Kermorgant’s bullet header crossing the line.

Darren Deadman played six minutes of added time but the Addicks managed to cling on to the three precious points.
