Charlton returned to winning ways with a hard fought 2-1 win over Bolton at The Valley on Tuesday evening.
Team wise, Lawrie Wilson came in for Chris Solly, Frederic Bulot replaced Johann Gudmundsson and George Tucudean and Franck Moussa were up front in place of Igor Vetokele and Karlan Ahearne-Grant.
The game was an open affair, with the opening goal coming just before the half hour mark.
A long ball out of defence was superbly controlled in the area by Tucudean. The Romanian then hit a left foot shot across Andy Lonergan and into the bottom left hand corner of the keeper’s net.
Tucudean raced to celebrate with the fans behind the goal and was promptly booked for his trouble.
A terrific move six minutes after the break saw the Addicks double their advantage.
Moussa controlled the ball superbly and passed to Tucudean. The striker could have had a shot himself, but showed great vision to slip the ball to his left, for Johnnie Jackson to pass it into the net.
If Charllton thought the job was done, they had to think again three minutes later.
Dean Moxey fired across Henderson to halve the arrears.
The Addicks’ achilles heel – defending corners – nearly came back to haunt them midway through the second period, but Rhoys Wiggins was on hand to head off the line.
Twenty minutes from time Yoni Buyens picked up a significant booking, despite the protests of Jackson. It was the Belgian’s fifth yellow card of the campaign and he will now miss Friday’s match at Fulham.
Charlton spent most of the second half on the back foot but managed to see the game out and take the three points.
There is good news regarding injured duo, Gudmundsson and Vetokele, they should be available for the Sheffield Wednesday game on 1 November.
