Team wise, Chris Solly returned at the expense on Anfernee Dijksteel, who dropped to the bench.
Karlan Grant’s hamstring ruled him out, with Nicky Ajose partnering Taylor up front. George Lapslie was also an absentee, suffering mild concussion from being hit in the face with the balll at Fratton Park. Tariqe Fosu replaced him in midfield.
There was real drama inside the first minute which resulted in Naby Sarr receiving the quickest red card in the club’s history.
He slid in to tackle Tennai Watson, but caught him late. Scott Wagstaff led the protests, and after consulting his assistant, Trevor Kettle brandished the red card.
Krystian Bielik dropped into central defence, with Jason Pearce moving across to left-back.
Despite having an extra man, Wimbledon showed little ambition, and it was the Addicks who had the better of things.
Numerical parity was restored after 33 minutes when Mitchell Pinnock received a second yellow card.
The hosts were more incisive after the break, and broke the deadlock on the hour mark.
Ajose’s cross from the left was flicked into the far corner by Taylor. The former Dons striker did not celebrate his goal, but the fans certainly did.
As the game entered the last 20 minutes, the Wombles began to show more adventure, and left more space for Charlton to exploit.
With 15 minutes left, a glorious through ball from Ben Reeves sent Ajose clear. Joe McDonnell dashed out of his area, and foiled Ajose with his leg, as the striker tried to go round him.
But the Addicks sealed victory four minutes from time.
A sweeping move involving Bielik and Fosu found Marshall, who drilled a shot home from 15 yards.
There were four minutes of added time, but Charlton kept the ball well, and saw the game out without any late drama.
