Charlton rescued a point deep into stoppage time against Sheffield United at The Valley on Saturday.
Patrick Bauer glanced in Adam Chicksen’s free-kick, to cancel out Mark Duffy’s first half opener.
Kevin Nugent brought Johnnie Jackson in for Chicksen, in the only change to the side that won so convincingly against Bristol Rovers on Tuesday.
The Blades were bright, inventive and very fit, but failed to create many clear cut chances.
The slender lead was always going to leave the visitors vulnerable. In the end, the game hinged on two set pieces.
The Addicks opened with a flourish, a dangerous ball in from the left by Jackson, narrowly evaded Nicky Ajose’s touch after six minutes.
Josh Magennis put Morgan Fox’s pass away after nine minutes, but the effort was ruled out, Magennis was clearly offside.
For the visitors, Billy Sharp shot just over midway through the half, but ten minutes later, United were ahead.
The Blades were awarded a free-kick just outside the box, Duffy ran over the ball and carried on running. Nobody tracked his run, the ball was played through to him and he smashed it past Dillon Phillips at the near post.
Ajose fired over six minutes later, but Charlton were struggling to create anything going forward.
United dominated much of the second period, and it was not until ten minutes from time that the hosts tested Moore. The stopper comfortably dealt with Magennis’ shot though.
The Blades held their fragile lead until two minutes into stoppage time.
Trickery by substitute, Jordan Botaka, drew a foul near the bye line to the right of the goal.
Chicksen curled the ball in and Bauer glanced it home.
The draw will feel like a defeat to United boss, Chris Wilder, but his team extend their unbeaten run to fifteen matches.
Kevin Nugent’s run as caretaker manager ended at the final whistle. Nugent done well, three matches in a week produced seven points with a goal record of eight scored, and just two conceded.
Karl Robinson – watching from the stands today – will assume command on Monday. Robinson is keen to bring in his former MK Don’s assistant, Richie Barker. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Nugent.
The result leaves the Addicks two points off the play-off places with a game in hand.
