Charlton drew for the fifth time in their last six games against Oldham on Tuesday evening.
A sparsely populated Valley witnessed a poor spectacle. The Addicks were disjointed and lacking in cohesion for much of the game.
But for profligate finishing, the Latics would have returned north with all three points.
It was neither the result, nor the performance that manager, Russell Slade, was looking for.
The manager brought Ezri Konsa back to replace the suspended Harry Lennon, and Ricky Holmes and Lee Novak returned at the expense of Ademola Lookman and Kevin Foley.
Novak spent periods of the game bolstering the midfield.
Oldham started brightly without seriously troubling Declan Rudd, but Charlton gradually
got into the game.
Novak knocked the ball in for Josh Magennis to shoot, and a long range Morgan Fox free-kick went wide of the mark.
But the Addicks did take the lead midway through the half. Andrew Crofts fed the ball to Holmes, who drifted into the area and played Magennis in. The big Irishman blasted in from an acute angle.
The Latics should have drawn level shortly after the half-hour mark. A Ryan Flynn cross presented Freddie Lapado with a gilt edged opportunity. The striker was only four yards out, but a combination of Chris Solly and Rudd thwarted him.
Just before the interval Crofts fired wide from long range.
Magennis had a chance shortly after the restart but the visitors came close two minutes later when Lapado fired a ball across the face of goal. It just needed a touch to level things up.
For Charlton, Holmes played Magennis in, but the Irishman put his shot over the bar.
Midway through the half, Lee Erwin missed a sitter for Oldham, but the visitors did draw level seven minutes from time.
They won a free-kick in a central position. A lofted ball was floated forward, and skipper Peter Clarke rose highest to glance it home.
The hosts came close to restoring their lead two minutes later, when an Ademola Lookman thunderbolt rattled the bar, but they had to settle for a draw.
Boos greeted the final whistle, and the winless streak moves on to six. Slade has won only two of his ten games so far, a worse win ratio than the much maligned Karel Fraeye.
The manager has work to do before Rochdale pitch up at The Valley on Saturday.
