Charlton once again surrendered a lead late on, and had to settle for a 1-1 draw with out-of-form Bradford City at The Valley on Tuesday evening.
Tyrell Robinson equalised for the Bantams ten minutes from time, after Josh Magennis had headed the Addicks into a first-half lead.
Karl Robinson made one change to the team that drew at Doncaster on Saturday, with Sullay Kaikai coming in for Ben Reeves, who dropped to the bench.
Mark Marshall – playing against his old team for the first time – nearly gave Charlton an early lead. His fourth minute shot hit the inside of the post and was scrambled clear by the Bantams’ defenders.
Kaikai – on his Addicks debut – nearly made an early impression too. He forced Colin Doyle to save with his feet after eleven minutes.
But midway through the half, the hosts got the goal that their early dominance deserved.
A cheeky flick by Kaikai from just outside his own penalty box, freed Tariqe Fosu, who carried the ball deep into Bradford’s half, before releasing Marshall.
The former Bantams wide man clipped a cross in, and Magennis’ downward header beat Doyle at the foot of the post, though the keeper may feel he should have done better.
The second period was more open, with the visitors venturing forward more.
Ben Amos was called into action after 51 minutes, and made a terrific save to foil Adam Chicksen.
Fosu’s acrobatic clearance midway through the half was penalised, and Tony McMahon struck the post with the free-kick.
Fosu went close with a free-kick, but Bradford levelled things up ten minutes from time, when Robinson headed in a right-wing cross.
Letting leads slip late on has been a recurring theme this season. Charlton need to bring it to a halt now if they are to make the play-offs.
