Charlton Athletic 1-0 Oldham Athletic

Charlton finally returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win over Oldham in a desperately poor game at The Valley.

Patrick Bauer, ‎Joe Aribo and Stephy Mavididi came into that starting line-up, with Naby Sarr, and Ben Reeves dropping to the bench. Jake Forster-Caskey was ruled out through injury.

Sarr picked up an injury during the warm up and had to drop out. Karl Robinson will be hoping the defender will not be sidelined for long.

Forster-Caskey will start running on Monday, and is hopeful of being fit for Bury next Saturday. Ahmed Kashi captained the team.

The game op‎ened brightly and Ricky Holmes thundered a shot against the bar from 30-yards, with Johny Placide in the Oldham goal beaten.

Three minutes later, Rob Hunt tried his luck from range for the Latics, but his shot went well wide.

The decisive goal came after 27 minutes. Mavididi produced some magic in the box to drift past ‎two defenders and plant a crisp shot into the corner of the net. It was Mavididi’s first senior goal.

The Addicks dominated the rest of the half, without seriously coming close to extending their lead.

It was a different story after the break. Oldham held the whip hand for most of the time. ‎Ben Amos was required to make a couple of smart saves, but the hosts never looked seriously threatened.

It was Charlton’s first win since November, and they now need to string some results together if they are to be in contention for a play-off place at the end of the season.
