Charlton slumped to a third successive defeat at The Valley and have now taken just one point from their last five games on home soil.
The contrast with their visitors could not be more stark. The Lions had won just one league game this year but have had an exceptional week. They qualified for the FA Cup semi-finals on Wednesday and won at The Valley for the first time in over thirty years on Sayurday.
Millwall’s two new signings were instrumental in their victory, whereas Mark Gower did not make the Charlton bench.
On a wet Saturday lunch time, Chris Powell restored Yann Kermorgant to his front line following the Frenchman’s suspension. Ricardo Fuller dropped to the bench.
Danny Shittu was peerless at the heart of the Lion’s defence and Danny Haynes barely got a sniff all afternoon.
It was Kermorgant who came closest for the Addicks. A second half free-kick whistling narrowly wide of David Forde’s right hand post.
Millwall went ahead after 58 minutes. Kenny Jackett introduced Jermaine Easter to the fray and within seconds, Easter’s first touch was to guide Richard Chaplow’s left-wing cross past David Button. The Lion’s duo had only joined the club on loan on Friday.
Six minutes later, Shane Lowry added the second. Bradley Pritchard conceded a free-kick some thirty yards out. Lowry’s effort curled past Button left hand and into the top corner of the net.
Try as they may, Charlton could not find a way back into the game and their dismal record against their local rivals continues.
