This was a poor match, between two poor sides, decided by a deflected goal.
Too many Charlton players were way below their best and David Forde in the Millwall goal will be lucky if he has a quieter game than this all season.
Ben Hamer is going through one of his jittery spells and looks as though he needs a spell out of the team.
Rhoys Wiggins looks a pale shadow of the player who was so exciting a couple of years ago. Truth be told, he has not been the same player since the injury he sustained against Crystal Palace last September. In any event, Cedric Evina is more suited to playing in a 3-5-2 formation.
Bradley Pritchard was in Nicky Bailey’s pocket all afternoon and really should have come off earlier.
Chris Powell is normally over cautious with his use of yougsters, so it was a surprise that he chose this game to give Joe Pigott his first league start.
It was a decision that backfired, Pigott struggled, just as he did at Watford a week ago.
Millwall had to do very little to win. A misplaced pass by Pritchard allowed the Lions to break. The ball was played to Scott McDonald, and the striker’s shot took a deflection of Dorian Dervite’s heel to wrong foot Hamer.
Charlton switched to 4-4-2 just before the hour mark and, as at Huddersfield, Cameron Stewart looked Charlton’s main threat when he came on.
The Addicks were short of ideas and resorted to just hoofing the ball up field, they really need to show more guile.
The next seven matches are really tough but the Addicks need to turn things round quickly.
