Charlton slumped to a second 1-0 defeat in four days at The Valley on Saturday.
A single goal from Ryan Lowe midway through the first half was enough for Bury to take all three points.
Karl Robinson’s side are now on a winless streak of six games.
Robinson rested Andrew Crofts – who replaced Patrick Bauer at the interval – and Josh Magennis, with Joe Aribo, Ezri Konsa and Lee Novak coming into the starting line-up. Chris Solly missed out through suspension and Ricky Holmes wore the captain’s armband.
Lee Clark always sets his teams up to be hard to beat, and used a five man back line for this game.
The Shakers’ goal came after 21 minutes, and was a comedy of errors. The Addicks spurned no fewer than four opportunities to clear their lines before Lowe stabbed the ball home.
Novak had Charlton’s best chances. He hit the bar from a Jake Forster-Caskey cross after 32 minutes, and headed a pinpoint Ricky Holmes cross wide of a gaping goal after 75 minutes.
Sandwiched between those efforts was a bullet downward header from a Holmes cross, which drew a stunning save from Joe Murphy.
Stephy Mavididi and Tony Watt both went close, but huff and puff as they might, the Addicks could not fashion an equaliser.
