Karl Robinson’s tenure at The Valley began with a tame 0-0 draw with MK Dons in the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.
Both sides had the ball in the net – Kieran Agard for the visitors, and Josh Magennis for the Addicks – but both efforts were clearly offside.
Robinson was warmly greeted by both sets of supporters, and the new Valley gaffer is certainly a vocal and animated character.
He opted for a 4-4-2 formation, and both clubs fielded their strongest line-ups.
The best chances arrived late on. Ademola Lookman was narrowly wide with a free-kick after 72 minutes, and was even closer five minutes from time.
Magennis played Lookman in, and his shot went narrowly wide of the far post. Nicky Ajose was desperately close to applying the decisive touch.
For the Dons, substitute Ryan Colclough hit the post in stoppage time, and the follow up shot from Dean Bowditch was hacked off the line.
So both sides will be in Monday’s draw for the Third Round, with the replay likely to be staged on Tuesday 13 December at stadium:mk.
