Chris Powell opted for the same team and subs as Tuesday for the visit of Hull City. He was forced to make a late change to the bench due to Matt Taylor sustaining an injury during the warm-up. Dorian Dervite took his place.
There were sporadic bursts of heavy rain before the game and during the first half but after the break, the heavens really opened. The game obviously changed due to the conditions and it was surprising that Powell did not make any changes during the match. The pitch became difficult due to the heavy rain and Johnnie Jackson in particular was struggling. With a ready made replacement in Salim Kerkar sitting on the bench, a change seemed the locigal move.
The Addicks had a couple of penalty claims turned down and Hamer made a superb double save in stoppage time to earn his side a point.
Charlton did have the ball in the net only for it to be ruled out for offside. Wright-Phillips’ initial effort was well saved by Ben Amos but the rebound was expertly turned in by Yann Kermorgant. Sadly, the Frenchman’s joy was short lived.
