Charlton Ath v Wycombe W Preview

Charlton, as is normal for the club, secured promotion away from The Valley last week. However, if they can beat lowly Wycombe and Sheffield United fail to win at stadium:mk, the Addicks will become champions in front of their own fans.

Wycombe are in deep relegation trouble and were hoping to be able to field on loan Charlton defender, Gary Doherty, folowing last week’s result at Carlisle. The idea – for a variety of reasons – was always a non-starter and the Chairboys will be forced to use a teenage duo in the heart of defence due to their injury problems.

Paul Hayes’ goals sparked a revival at Adams Park and his return to The Valley has not helped their cause.

With promotion secured, Charlton may play with the freedom they showed earlier in the season and, with a large crowd in buoyant mood, they should have too much in their locker for the Buckinghamshire outfit. Stuart Beavon will pose the main threat and Cort and Morrison will have to be on their guard.

Chris Powell is unlikely to tamper with the team too much and the only real decision he has to make is whether to start with Dany N’Guessan or Scott Wagstaff on the right. The team could look like this:

Hamer; Solly, Cort, Morrison, Wiggins; N’Guessan, Stephens, Pritchard, Jackson; Kermorgant, Wright-Phillips.

Subs: Sullivan, Taylor, Wagstaff, Cook, Haynes.

Surrey’s Darren Sheldrake will be the man in charge.

Tomorrow could again see Charlton win and results elsewhere going in their favour. Milton Keynes Dons will be difficult opponents for in-form Sheffield United and it would be no surprise to see the Dons take something from the game. If they do, the celebrations will begin on SE7 if Charlton have done their job and beaten Wycombe.
