It is the annual ‘Football For A Fiver’ promotion on Sunday and The Valley will host over 20,000 fans for the visit of the FA Cup holders.
This year, there is a compulsory £1 donation to charity added to the ticket price.
Wigan were many people’s idea of the likely winners of the Championship but they are not yet among the pacesetters. They are a couple of games behind most teams so their position could change quickly.
Part of the problem has been the away form, after winning their opening fixture 4-0 at Barnsley, the Latics have since been beaten at Bournemouth, Leicester, Watford and most recently, Blackpool.
Wigan were reduced to ten men at Bloomfield Road when James McClean was shown a red card but it was rescinded on appeal and McClean is available to face Charlton.
The Latics can call upon strikers of the calibre of Nick Powell, Jordi Gomez and Grant Holt with attacking midfield options in McClean and Callum McManaman. Former Charlton Player of the Year, Scott Carson, will be between the posts for the visitors.
Chris Powell will be buoyed by last week’s win at Blackburn and must decide on whether to bring Yann Kermorgant and Johnnie Jackson back into the starting line-up. Kermorgant looks assured of returning at the expense of Marvin Sordell but Jackson’s involvement looks less clear.
Powell may decide to leave his winning team more-or-less intact and could opt for this starting XI:
Hamer; Wilson, Morrison, Wood, Wiggins; Pritchard, Cousins, Stephens, Stewart; Kermorgant, Church.
Subs: Alnwick, Evina, Dervite, Green, Gower, Jackson, Sordell.
The referee will be Stephen Martin from Staffordshire.
Playing a day after the other teams at the bottom, the Addicks could be in the relegation zone when the game kicks-off. Powell’s side will be encouraged by Wigan’s run of four defeats on the road and will be hopeful of extending their mini unbeaten run to four.
