Wednesday got a creditable draw at Blackburn on Boxing Day and will be hopeful of taking something from their visit to The Valley.
The Owls are obdurate opponents on the road and though a 1-0 win at out of form Watford has been their only away success, they have drawn six of their other ten games away from Hillsborough.
Wednesday do not offer an awful lot going forward but are fairly solid defensively. If they were to snatch a goal, the Addicks would be hard pressed to secure the three points.
Breaking teams down is not one of Charlton’s strong points so the game is unlikely to be a classic. The first goal is likely to prove crucial in this match.
Chris Powell will have Johnnie Jackson available again following his three match suspension. After a good performance at Bolton, and the Boxing Day win over Brighton, Powell is likely to retain the same starting line-up again.
Jackson will probably be on the bench and the manager will be aware that his skipper is one booking away from a one match ban. Five yellow cards will not incur a mandatory ban after this match so Jackson may not be risked unless the Addicks are chasing the game.
Charlton may field this team:
Alnwick; Solly, Morrison, Wood, Wiggins; Wilson, Cousins, Stephens, Stewart; Kermorgant, Church.
Subs: Pope, Evina, Dervite, Green, Hughes, Jackson, Sordell.
The referee will be Fred Graham from Essex.
This will be a tougher game than many are anticipating and it would be no surprise if the spoils were shared.
