Jason Euell’s Under-21 side came from behind to beat Watford 2-1 at Sparrows Lane on Monday afternoon.

Goals from Brandon Hanlan and Ademola Lookman sealed victory for the Addicks, but the main interest was the return of Stephen Henderson.

The Irish keeper played all 90 minutes and had this to say after the final whistle:

“I’m absolutely delighted,I was meant to do it(play 90 minutes) last week up at Ipswich, but it just didn’t feel like the right time.

“I’ve had another full week’s training in me since then and I was ready to go today, so delighted to get through the 90 and get the cobwebs out.

“My shoulder is feeling stronger than ever, like my other one. After 12 weeks of rehab I feel strong and ready to go.

“It wasn’t nice being out but these things happen and it could’ve been worse. I’m just delighted that hopefully it’s all behind me now and that I can just kick on. I want to get back in the team and for us to start winning again.”

Though he was on the bench at Reading, it is unlikely that Henderson will play against Preston on Tuesday. Saturday’s game against Brentford is a possibility though. Here are Henderson’s concluding thoughts,

“It’ll probably be too soon for the opinions of the people above me but I feel ready to go.

“I’ve been training for two to three weeks. I’m feeling sharp and I’ve just got to bide my time now. I’m always determined to get back into the team.

“I want to get back and show what I’m about again. It’s been a hard four-month lay-off. I’m ready to get going again,” said Henderson.

Tuesday’s match with Preston is massively important for the Addicks. They have taken just two points from the last seven games and have slumped to 20th in the table, just two points off the bottom.

Preston are on a similarly poor run. They have only won one match all season, scoring seven goals, a mere three away from home.

North End will be without strikers Jermain Beckford and Joe Garner through injury and suspension respectively.

Guy Luzon will have Simon Makienok available again, after being absent for five weeks.

Naby Sarr will come in for the suspended Patrick Bauer, and Morgan Fox is likely to return at left-back.

Luzon will have to decide between Zakaraya Bergdich, Conor McAleny or Franck Moussa on the left of midfield, and whether to risk Makienok from the start. Moussa could also come into contention for a role up front.

Charlton could look like this:

Pope; Solly, Diarra, Sarr, Fox; Gudmundsson, Cousins, Jackson, Moussa; Ahearne-Grant, Watt.

Subs: Henderson,Holmes-Dennis, Bergdich, Ba, Kennedy, McAleny, Makienok.

The referee will be Wiltshire’s Simon Hooper.

Luzon will have this game earmarked for a three point haul. He could hardly have a better opportunity to bring the long winless sequence to an end.
