Charlton will be looking to continue Tuesday’s good work when Leicester’s East Midlands neighbours, Nottingham Forest, come to The Valley on Saturday.
Billy Davies – once very close to becoming Charlton manager – recently returned for a second spell in charge at the City Ground. Davies’ side came from behind to record a spectacular 6-1 win against Huddersfield on Tuesday.
Forest have been sound at home but have struggled on their travels, winning just three of their sixteen games on the road. They are now on a winless streak of seven in matches away from the City Ground, a run that stretches back to November.
The Addicks of course have the reverse problem, they have found wins hard to come by on home turf, recording a mere four victories from the eighteen fixtures in all commpetitions played at The Valley.
Forest will have a couple of familiar faces in their line-up, Greg Halford and Andy Reid have plied their trade in SE7 and Reid is assured of a warm welcome on his return.
Forest have a hugely creative midfield with the likes of Chris Cohen, Henri Lansbury and Lewis McGugan available to play alongside Reid. Perhaps that creativity leaves them vulnerable at the back away from home.
Simon Cox and Dexter Blackstock are likely to be Davies’ front runners.
Chris Powell has switched formations on a regular basis and predicting the shape, let alone the personnel deployed, can be difficult. Danny Haynes’ introduction won the game at Leicester on Tuesday and the pacy striker will be pressing for a starting berth.
Powell may well be tempted to keep faith with the side that served him so well at the King Power though. Charlton could look like this:
Hamer; Solly, Cort, Morrison, Wiggins; Pritchard, Srephens, Dervite, Jackson, Wagstaff; Kermorgant.
Subs: Button, Taylor, Evina, Green, Hughes, Haynes, Fuller.
The referee will be Andy Madley from West Yorkshire.
Davies’ sides are well organised but also play with flair. If Forest are to reach the play-offs they will need to turn their away form around quickly. With 2013/14 season tickets now on sale, the Addicks will be looking to end the season with a flourish. It could be an entertaining game.
