Charlton Ath v Notts County Preview

Chris Powell will have to overcome the curse of the manager of the month award for the third time after picking up the February award on Friday morning.

Four wins and two draws during the month ensured Powell becoming the first manager in the club’s history to win the trophy three times in the same season.

More important to him will be steering his side back to winning ways after their first home defeat on Tuesday.

Keith Curle has had a terrific start to his tenure at Meadow Lane. Formerly coach at QPR under Neil Warnock, Curle has overseen four wins and a draw since being installed in the Notts County hot seat.

The next three games will do much to determine whether the Magpies’ quest for a play-off spot will be successful. After Charlton, they face both the Sheffield teams.

Powell stuck with his tried and trusted line-up on Tuesday and, to be fair, the Addicks looked bright and energetic but profligacy in front of goal cost them dear. Performance wise, it was as good as Charlton have played for some while.

The question is, will Powell freshen things or go with the same team again? If changes were to be made, Tuesday was probably a more likely time for them to have happened. Powell has publicly backed Ben Hamer, whose error led to the second goal. He may be tempted to bring Haynes in for the misfiring Wright-Phillips, but in all probability he will stick with the same side. The Addicks could look like this:

Hamer; Solly, Taylor, Morrison, Wiggins; Green, Stephens, Hollands, Jackson; Kermorgant, Wright-Phillips.

Subs: Sullivan, Cort, Russell, Haynes, Clarke.

The referee will be Brendan Malone from Wiltshire.

Another tough afternoon beckons and the Addicks may have to settle for a share of the spoils.
