Millwall will travel to The Valley this weekend on the back of Wednesday’s FA Cup triumph at Ewood Park.
The win sent the Lions to Wembley to face Wigan in the FA Cup semi-final in a month’s time. The question is, will the visitors be inspired by Wednesday’s performance or will it be a case of after the Lord Mayor’s Show?
Millwall skipper, Danny Shittu, will be relishing a return to his former home, as will striking duo, Rob Hulse and Dany N’Guessan.
Chris Powell has reverted to the tried and trusted 4-4-2 shape recently and the system is the one that best suits his squad. Powell may be tempted to employ a more cautious approach but 4-4-2 would give the Addicks their best chance of winning the game.
Recent recruit, Mark Gower, will be available but may have to settle for a place on the bench for this game. Yann Kermorgant has completed his three match ban and could replace Ricardo Fuller up front. Fuller struggled during last week’s two away games and may have been carrying a knock.
Powell will have a number of decisions to make. Ben Hamer will be anxious to wrest the gloves back from David Button but the latter’s display at Huddersfield makes him hard to drop.
Dale Stephens is fit again and the impressive Callum Harriott is likely to recover from the late knock he sustained last Saturday. The game may be a little too early for Leon Cort to feature though.
Charlton could start with this team:
Button; Solly, Taylor, Morrison, Wiggins; Wilson, Pritchard, Jackson, Harriott; Kermorgant, Haynes.
Subs: Hamer, Dervite, Evina, Gower, Stephens, Fuller, Obika.
The referee will be Neil Swarbrick from Preston.
The Addicks have a poor record against their neighbours and this match probably gives them their best chance of a win for some time.
