Charlton Ath v Leyton Orient Preview
Charlton Ath v Leyton Orient Preview

Charlton’s worst run of the season has come at the wrong time but the Addicks could scarcely have asked for better opposition than Orient.

The East Londoner’s are in poor form themselves and Tuesday’s narrow win at Oldham was their first for nine games. Orient have a liberal sprinkling if ex-Addicks in their ranks so the Valley faithful will be familiar with some of the opposition. Paul Rachubka will be in goal, Matthew Spring will pull the midfield strings with two less-than-popular strikers – Kevin Lisbie and David Mooney – forming the spearhead up front.

Though not prolific, the front two can occasionally pull off the spectacular. Lisbie in particular, has been a thorn in the Addicks side since his departure.

Chris Powell is unlikely to make wholesale changes, though Darel Russell’s suspension will rule him out.

Ben Hamer had a good game at the Galpharm and Leon Cort is likely to continue alongside Michael Morrison in the heart of defence. Solly and Wiggins will complete the back-four.

Johnnie Jackson and Danny Haynes returned to training on Thursday but may be given a little longer to heal. Scott Wagstaff may again keep Danny Green on the sidelines while Dale Stephens is likely to resume his partnership with Danny Hollands in the engine room. Lee Cook could make his second Valley debut at the expense of Dany N’Guessan.

Yann Kermorgant should make a welcome return alongside Wright-Phillips, with Paul Hayes dropping to the bench.

Charlton could look something like this:

Hamer; Solly, Cort, Morrison, Wiggins; Wagstaff, Stephens, Hollands, Cook; Kermorgant, Wright-Phillips.

Subs: Sullivan, Taylor, Green, Hayes, N’Guessan.

Mark Brown from East Yorkshire will take charge.

Charlton will be keen to avenge the defeat Orient inflicted on New Year’s Eve and Powell is likely to opt for an attack minded bench.

Huddersfield have a tough looking match ar Carlisle but the Sheffield duo – Wednesday, home to Preston and United at Hartlepool – will both expect to pick up three points. Anything less than a win for the Addicks and the nerves really will start to jangle.

Charlton have enough quality to get the win they need as long as they stay focused and do not get frustrated.
