Colchester will provide doughty opposition and could prove tricky to beat when the two sides meet at The Valley on Tuesday night.
They have a talented and dangerous midfield which includes former Charlton youngster, Kem Izzet, QPR loanee Keith Rowlands and possible Charlton summer target, the left-sided Anthony Wordsworth.
Another player thought to be interesting Chris Powell is striker,Steven Gillespie. Freddie Sears, on loan from West Ham, will provide back up from the bench.
Spirit and determination got the Addicks through on Saturday but some of the players looked jaded. Powell’s side are in the middle of a hectic run and the manager will have to give serious consideration to freshening his team up. Ben Hamer came off at Bournemouth with a twisted ankle but the injury is not thought to be too serious. Powell may err on the side of caution though and start with John Sullivan in goal.
Charlton could start with this line-up:
Sullivan; Solly, Taylor, Morrison, Wiggins; Green, Stephens, Hollands, Jackson; Kermorgant, Haynes.
Subs: Hamer, Cort, Russell, Clarke, Wright-Phillips.
Gavin Ward from Surrey will take charge of the match.
The Addicks will need to be focused and patient. The game could be very close.
