Blackburn have lost their last three away games in the Championship 1-0, and Jose Riga would love to extend that run to four.

It has been a disappointing campaign for Rovers, and Paul Lambert added experience to the spine of his team this week.

Elliott Ward will strengthen Lambert’s back line and Danny Graham will do the same at the front.

Riga has had all week to work with his squad and will have spent much of that time organising his defence.

The squad have been put through their paces in double sessions this week. Riga’s teams are noted for their energy, and in his last spell at The Valley, he normally utilised a 4-4-2 formation.

Riga has a positive approach, and is prepared to take risks to win a game. Such a philosophy means their will be losses along the way, but the new head coach will be confident that – as in his first spell at the club – his team will win enough games to pull away from the relegation zone.

Stephen Henderson looks set to continue in goal, with Chris Solly and Morgan Fox filling the full-back berths. New signing, Jorge Teixeira, is likely to go straight into the starting line-up, with Roger Johnson as his likely partner.

Callum Harriott showed the best form of his career under Riga and may start on the left, with Johann Berg Gudmundsson on the other flank.

Jordan Cousins and Johnnie Jackson will compete with Diego Poyet for the two engine room slots.

Igor Vetokele looked sharp early on at Hull, and could start alongside either Simon Makienok or Ricardo Vaz Te. Tony Watt returned to the club this week but it seems unlikely that he will be involved.

The Addicks could look something like this:

Henderson; Solly, Johnson, Teixeira, Johnson, Fox; Gudmundsson, Cousins, Jackson, Harriott; Makienok, Vetokele.

Subs: Pope, Sarr, Lennon, Holmes-Dennis, Williams, Poyet, Vaz Te.

The referee will be Shropshire’s Rob Lewis.

Charlton’s losing streak now stands at eleven, and it is vital that Riga halts that run quickly.

After this game, the Addicks will visit fellow strugglers Rotherham. The club are laying on free coach travel to the game, in a bid to get a big turn out to support the team.
