A youthful Charlton Under-21 team played an experienced Tottenham side in a friendly at Spurs Lodge on Tuesday afternoon.
To say it was an entertaining game would be an understatement, the Addicks scored six times, but unfortunately so did Jon Obika and Spurs ran out 10-6 winners.
Obviously the conditions had an effect on the match but Charlton did lead briefly after Tobi Sho-Silva opened the scoring. Callum Harriott(2), Joe Pigott, Harry Lennon and Ade Azeez were the other scorers for the Addicks.
The game with Oxford has been rescheduled for next Tuesday after being called off on Monday morning. The pitch is now covered by an inflatable dome as the club attempt to dry it out. They say Saturday’s game with Barnsley is not currently at risk, but there has to be some doubt about whether the ground staff can dry the pitch sufficiently to do the remedial work required in time.
The cup game with Oxford should go ahead without problem on 14 January though.
Paul Elliott is again being mentioned as a possibility for a top administrative job at The Valley. Elliott was thought to be a target for the previous regime but the stories faded when his dispute with Richard Rufus became public.
The expected influx of players from Standard Liege has yet to materialise with only Astrit Ajdarevic arriving thus far.
Alpaslan Ozturk, reportedly does not want to join the Addicks but there are suggestions that French keeper, Yohann Thuran may have a loan stint at The Valley.
Two more MLS players are training at Sparrows Lane. Toronto duo, Gale Agbossoumonde and Reggie Lambe will be with the club until 17 January. Togo born Agbossoumonde is a central defender, while Lambe is a Bermudan right-winger. Bermudan international Lambe has previously played for Ipswich and had a loan spell at Bristol Rovers.
Danny Green is said to be attracting interest from five League One clubs and Chris Powell may be willing to let him go out on loan.
Leeds want to sign Cameron Stewart from Hull on a permanent basis but Charlton are still interested in him and Powell has not given up hope of securing his signature.
Danny Hollands has returned to the club after completing his loan spell at Gillingham.
