Charlton Ath 1-1 Oldham Ath

It was good to see the FA Cup on the pitch as Charlton payed tribute to Peter Croker, the last surviving member of the 1947 Cup winning team, who died recently.

The game was a turgid affair with precious few moments of genuine class. What good moves were cobbled together were all fashioned by the Addicks.

The problem with the game was that it developed into an attritional affair and there was no one on the bench who could be described as a game changer.

Too many Charlton players had off days and Wright-Phillips continues to look out of sorts. Kermorgant battled on bravely despite a nasty clash of heads with Nathan Clarke. Both players were off the pitch for several minutes, having stitches and returned swathed in bandages. Kermorgant had problems keeping his dressing in place.

Both Morrison and Taylor made brave blocks during the afternoon, Morrison with his face, Taylor with a more delicate part of his anatomy.

Green and Wright-Phillips went close before Darel Russell opened the scoring on the hour mark. A ball of real quality was played in by Matt Taylor for Russell to head home.

The visitors levelled six minutes from time when Filipe Morais picked his spot after receiving the ball from the right.

Oldham were stubborn opponents but too often the Addicks resorted to launching the ball at Kermorgant. The continued absence of creative duo, Dale Stephens and Johnnie Jackson, is limiting the chances coming from midfield for the strikers. Jackson’s return is not too far away but Powell will have to wait a little longer for Stephens.

As things transpired, the thrilling 4-4 draw between Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield, was just the result Charlton needed. MK Dons lost ground, going down 0-1 at home to Preston with Sheffield United taking advantage to move into third position.
