Charlton have a habit of fluffing their lines when they are trying to encourage season ticket sales and this was no exception.
Chris Powell kept faith with the team that won at Leicester on Tuesday, though he did tweak the shape a little. Though starting with a 4-5-1 formation, the Addicks quickly switched Scott Wagstaff from the left to a more central position, just behind Yann Kermorgant. Dorian Dervite was again used as a defensive shield in front of the back-four. Whether that was the best way to play against an attack minded opponent is a moot point.
Charlton were outplayed from the first whistle but somehow managed to get to the break on level terms. Too many players had an off day, Stephens had a shocker, Pritchard for all his endeavour, was too lightweight, Dervite’s passing let him down and Hamer made another costly error.
The main talking point of the first half was Kermorgant’s dismissal after 37 minutes. Former Addicks loanee, Greg Halford, was shepherding the ball out of play in front of the East Stand when frustration got the better of Kermorgant. The French striker flicked his foot out and caught Halford’s shin.
The incident was missed by referee, Andy Madley, and his assistant on the East Stand side but unfortunately for Kermorgant, the assistant on the far side had spotted his indiscretion.
Forest made their numerical advantage count twice in seven minutes early in the second half. In-form midfielder Radoslaw Majewski – who scored a hat-trick against Huddersfield on Tuesday – opened the scoring after 53 minutes. Wagstaff had ample time to clear but when he delayed too long and Majewski took advantage to poke the ball home.
On the hour mark, Ben Hamer spilled a shot from Simon Cox and Henri Lansbury was on hand to apply the simplest of finishes.
Charlton have won just four of their nineteen home games this season, something that needs to change quickly. The Addicks need to produce some stylish performances, as well as putting a winning home run together, if they are to avoid a sizeable number of season ticket holders not renewing for next campaign.
