A hot, sultry day at The Valley saw Charlton lose their unbeaten pre-season record against Scottish Premier League side Inverness. The Valley

Barring new arrivals, Chris Powell fielded the team and utilised the shape he will probably opt for at Bournemouth.

Yann Kermorgant was the lone striker ahead of a five man midfield, with Dale Stephens and Mark Gower as the holding players, and Bradley Pritchard, Johnnie Jackson and Callum Harriott as the the more advanced trio.

Charlton played neat, tidy football in the first half and kept possession well. The Addicks were  the better side without seriously testing Dean Brill in the Caley goal.

David Button replaced Ben Hamer at half-time and the second period was a more even affair.

Danny Green came on for Stephens just past the hour mark, with Pritchard moving inside.

Joe Pigott came on for Gower with fifteen minutes left as Powell opted for a 4-4-2 shape.

Caley won the game ten minutes from time with the best move of the match.

A diagonal ball to the right was played into the area by Aaron Doran for centre-back, Josh Meekings, to fire into the bottom right hand corner of Button’s net.

Not the result Powell was looking for, but he will have taken plenty of positives from the pre-season campaign. He will have one or two deisions to make before the trip to Bournemouth but will travel south in confident mood.
